Blizzard Bliss: Turning Snow Days into "Stay-In-and-Slay" Days

Weather Alert

When the snow is so thick it looks like Elsa sneezed all over your neighborhood, there are two ways to handle it: panic about the lack of bread and milk or embrace your inner Lorelai Gilmore and turn the day into a cozy carnival of chaos. Let’s face it: you’re not leaving the house unless you’re a fan of frostbite or one of those people who “enjoys running in the snow” (weird flex, but okay). So grab a mug of something hot, wrap yourself in a blanket, and let’s make this blizzard day both productive and fun.

Marie Kondo

1: Things to Tackle While You’re Snowed In

Because every blizzard day deserves a montage of you getting your life together—set to the theme song from Rocky, naturally.

  1. Declutter That Drawer:You know the one. It’s holding three takeout menus from places that don’t exist anymore, a lone battery, and at least one mysterious key. Clean it out, and who knows? You might find that hair tie you’ve been looking for since 2017.

  2. Channel Marie Kondo on Your Closet:If it doesn’t spark joy or at least mild amusement, let it go. Bonus points if you dramatically toss items while humming "Let It Go."

  3. Digital Detox:Clear out your phone’s photo roll. Do you really need 27 blurry shots of your cat mid-yawn? (Spoiler: Yes. Yes, you do. But maybe delete the duplicates.)

  4. Start That Thing You Keep Postponing:Whether it’s a blog, a book, or watching Breaking Bad for the sixth time, today’s the day. No excuses—unless, of course, there’s a Friends marathon on.

  5. Reorganize Your Kitchen Pantry:Put your spices in alphabetical order or, at the very least, stop pretending you’re going to use that turmeric from 2012.

Blizzard Day Games and Activities

Because sometimes you need to do more than stare longingly out the window like you’re in a Taylor Swift music video.

  • DIY Escape Room:Turn your house into a puzzle-solving adventure. Bonus points if you trap your kids in the laundry room until they fold at least one load.

  • Living Room Olympics:Who needs ice skating when you’ve got slippery socks and hardwood floors? Prepare for the least graceful triple axel attempt in history.

  • Couch Forts 2.0:Forget your basic blanket forts. We’re talking multi-room forts with snack stations, fairy lights, and a no-adults-allowed vibe. Unless you’re the adult. Then, you’re in charge of the snack station.

  • Gilmore Girls Trivia Night:Test everyone’s knowledge of Stars Hollow while drinking copious amounts of coffee. Loser shovels the driveway.

  • Recreate TikTok Trends:Try a viral dance or an oddly satisfying cleaning hack. Just don’t let it end with you covered in flour or stuck on your counter.

Blizzard-Friendly Recipes with Pantry Staples

1. Lazy Potato Soup à la Lorelai

Because nothing says comfort food like carbs in liquid form.

Ingredients:

  • 4-5 potatoes (because they don’t expire—like, ever)

  • 1 onion (or half if you’re saving the other half for emotional support)

  • 2-3 cups milk (or use whatever milk-like substance you have—no judgment)

  • 2 tbsp butter or oil

  • Salt, pepper, and the herbs your spice rack hasn’t claimed in a mutiny yet

Instructions:

  1. Sauté the onion in butter or oil until it smells like you’re fancy.

  2. Add potatoes and enough water to cover them. Simmer while scrolling Instagram.

  3. Mash lightly and stir in milk. Add salt, pepper, and a sprinkle of “wow, I cooked this?” vibes.

  4. Optional: Top with cheese, bacon bits, or crushed chips because you’re a snow day rebel.

2. Blizzard Banana Mug Cake

For when you need dessert and can’t deal with actual baking.

Ingredients (per mug):

  • 1 ripe banana (if it’s not ripe, nuke it for 30 seconds and pretend)

  • 3 tbsp flour (or pancake mix—we don’t judge here)

  • 1 tbsp sugar or honey

  • ½ tsp baking powder

  • Pinch of salt

  • Splash of milk (or water if your milk situation is dire)

Instructions:

  1. Mash the banana like it owes you money.

  2. Stir in all the other ingredients and mix until it looks like batter and not regret.

  3. Microwave for 1-2 minutes, checking at 30-second intervals.

  4. Add toppings like chocolate chips, peanut butter, or sprinkles if you’re feeling extra.

So there you have it, Whether you’re channeling your inner Marie Kondo, conquering your couch fort kingdom, or inhaling banana mug cake, today’s the day to make Elsa proud (or at least get through it without losing your mind). Stay warm, stay sassy, and remember: blizzards are just nature’s way of saying, “Chill.” Literally. 🍋❄️

Love,

Jess Pye
